De La Soul pulled into the Golden Era of HipHop in 1991 with "De La Soul Is Dead" - there 2nd studio release. Fresh off of "3 Feet High And Rising" they struck hard with this classic. Considered eclectic for the times, De La didn't let any of the labels stop them from flexing their unique rhyme style for the masses. Daisies were no longer the vibe. Their rhyme scheme was complex and playful. They could lay some heavy subjects on your ear in very unassuming manner. This was evident with "Millie Pulled A Pistol On Santa" a tale about child abuse. You wouldn't notice that you were actually being educated. The trio of Podnuous, Trugoy the Dove, and Maseo stayed together until the passing of Trugoy in February 2023. A testament to their loyalty for each other, and their commitment to making the best music possible.
